Sprouted

The scarlet runner beans are well on their way now.  Last night, there was one plant popping up above the pot-side.  Now there are 4.  The other two are on the way.  The breech birch continues to struggle with its orientation (sorry, bean).  It's in the top right corner pot in the above picture.  The differences between it and the other plants aren't subtle.
Young leaves show their new veins to the world.  There is a David Attenborough documentary about bugs ("The Life of Insects") which features some lovingly-filmed scenes of moulting.  The new wings of damselflies (as I remember, anyway) are just like these new leaves.  The damselflies take deep breaths and inflate their wings.  They go from crinkled white, wet-looking appendages (just like the new leaves of our bean plants) to damselfly wings in a few moments.
The beans may take a little longer.
But only a little, I think.  They're shooting up at a tremendous pace.  I guess I had better have a look at the underside of the pots when I get home this evening.  Perhaps there are hairy white roots feeling around the base.
